In a therapeutic relationship, with the client and the therapist facing each other in a room, there is physic energy, a bond that is created. Through the building of this bond between these two people, they arrive at their goal. This bond that needs to be built encompasses many factions. One way to mirror a client is to determine the way the client processes information during a session. Very simply, this can be done by carefully listening and determining which category of words a client uses, such as visual, auditory, or kinesthetic. By listening to the client’s speech and matching it with words that fall into a certain category the client unconsciously becomes more open to the words spoken by the therapist.

A most important consideration for a skilled hypnotherapist will be to communicate with the unconscious faction of the client. Simple words are used and repeated often. The words used by the client are considered carefully to build this bond and communication effectively with the unconscious.

Like any therapeutic relationship, it is definitely a two way street.
